Some words from Angela DeChant,
Forward Emotion’s EMDR Therapist
Hi! My name is Angela DeChant and I am very passionate about empowering my clients to recognize their innate, internal strengths and to learn how to use the tools they didn’t know they already possessed to heal from the past and blossom in life. I love to witness my clients grow and change, especially when they embrace their value and find peace within themselves.
I have always been a ‘helper’ and have found many ways to use this strength in various areas of my life. When I was younger, it first meant a career as a Respiratory Therapist which I have enjoyed very much. I later realized, after attending my own counseling, that I wanted to have a deeper impact with my clients, not only in a physical and tangible way as a Respiratory Therapist, but in an even more meaningful way, as my counselor has done for me. This led me down the path of continuing on with higher education to become a mental health therapist and earn the title of Licensed Clinical Professional Counseling (LCPC). I enjoy incorporating many techniques that help my clients and look forward to discovering new and powerful therapy tools to implement in the future. I especially like the practicality of Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and the powerful impact that Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) has been proven to have, not only with symptoms of trauma, but also with negative self beliefs that are found in anxiety, depression and low self esteem.
I consider myself a facilitator of awareness, guiding my clients to see their own strength and power. I know it can be easy to forget (or not recognize) how gifted we are as human beings, no matter our life path, personal experiences, gender, race, color or sexuality.
I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, where my family has roots. This is where I feel most comfortable and what I call home.
Education
I attended Roosevelt University where I earned my Master of Arts in Clinical Professional Psychology and Elmhurst College, earning a Bachelor of Arts where I majored in Psychology and minored in Intercultural Studies. I attended College of DuPage to earn my Associates of Applied Science with Honors as a Respiratory Therapy. I have also earned the following licenses and certificates; Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, Licensed Respiratory Practitioner, Basic Life Support and EMDR certification through an EMDRIA approved course.
