The basics of individual counseling at Forward Emotion
If you near Lisle/Naperville, Illinois, and would like one-to-one sessions, we can meet at the office located on Maple Avenue, close to Route 53.
There is also the option of having online sessions from the comfort of your own home.
First, we need to have an Initial Call
We will have a 15 – 20-minute initial call where we’ll talk for a little while on the phone so we can get an understanding of what you’re looking for and how we can help you. We encourage you to ask questions to get to know us a little, too.
While on the phone, we will set up our first appointment.
Next, we meet
Sessions are about 50–60 minutes long. We recommend meeting weekly in the beginning. Weekly sessions will help us to build trust, making it easier for you to talk. Meeting weekly will also help to remain focused, making the results that therapy can bring more quickly.
What we do in sessions
We will talk and talk some more. Together, we will identify your goals and work on achieving them so you can gain a sense of relief. You can count on our support, guidance, understanding, and belief in you.
We’ll be your guide to finding insights and obtaining a deeper understanding of yourself. You will learn new skills and ways of dealing with life’s challenges. We’ll be there with you along this journey, and we will adjust our plan as we go.

Online or phone counseling is also available!
If you live further away from the office, can’t make it in for one reason or another, or would prefer to stay in the comfort of your home in your pajamas, online counseling is an option for you.
We will connect using a confidential video-chat or phone session.
This is a great option if your car breaks down, you are stuck home with a sick child or you yourself are coming down with something and it would be more convenient to skip the travel time. This way, we don’t slow your progress, and we can continue working on meeting your goals.
Before our first appointment online, you will receive more information on how to connect via the private web platform. You will also receive paperwork and directions on how to submit your payment.
If this is your preferred method of counseling, we will still have an initial phone call before our first appointment. After that, the following sessions last 50-60 minutes and we recommend meeting weekly to maintain consistency and focus. This will help you move along in the therapy process.
